Functional Person
An individual person, alive or dead. This is used for architects, property owners, current or former staff, members of the Federal Heritage Building Committee or Heritage Sites and Monuments Board, or any other non-designated person who is involved in the process of heritage designation, asset creation, management or removal.
Functional Group
One or more people who can act collectively as a group, potentially sub-divided into further groups. This is used for groups of non-designated people involved in the process of heritage designation, asset creation, management or removal. For example: a research team, a government department, the Historic Sites and Monuments Board or the Federal Heritage Building Committee.
Heritage Evaluation Process
The process of designation, wherein a potential heritage instance (Heritage Asset, Heritage Event or Heritage Person) is nominated, screened, evaluated, recommended and designated.
Plaques
A specific type of heritage asset. This is used to document the production, installation, management and removal of the physical object that carries the text written to commemorate an instance of Heritage Asset, Heritage Event or Heritage Person.
Place
An area on the earth's surface, independent of time or any building or other material that might be located there
Textual Work
A text based work that can be carried by physical or digital objects. Examples are the text for inscription on heritage designation plaques, research reports produced within the process of evaluation, or the designation authorities referred to in the decision-making process.
Heritage Person
An individual person of potential historic significance who has been nominated for designation status, regardless of whether that status is in process of evaluation, has been rejected, is current or has been rescinded.
Heritage Event
An individual event of potential historic significance which has been nominated for designation status, regardless of whether that status is in process of evaluation, has been rejected, is current or has been rescinded.
Heritage Asset
An individual or compound physical object of potential historic significance which has been nominated for designation status, regardless of whether that status is in process of evaluation, has been rejected, is current or has been rescinded. A site or a building.
Digital Object
Any digital resource or small set of consistent resources that are the output of a single process or activity, including images, word or pdf documents, video, audio or data files.
Each individual file can have its own technical and identity information, but the creation of them is described only at the instance level.
