Models
Actor The generic actor reference data model provides a condensed list of generic descriptors (fields) that are typically present in the description of a person in cultural heritage data systems. The intention of this reference model is to indicate where such data would be consolidated were that data present. Physical Carrier The physical information carrier reference data model provides a list of standard fields that are typically present in the general description of physical documents in a cultural heritage data system. The physical information carrier is taken here in the sense of a movable, physical item of some sort such as would be typically inventoried by a museum, archive or library. Specific documentation of elements of a physical information carrier depend highly upon the kind of document it is. This reference model does not intend to cover such specificities but to remain at a general level description, providing a consolidated, high-level reference data model of most commonly reused descriptors for a physical information carrier and to provide for these, in turn, a set of standard semantic mappings to the CIDOC CRM. Moreover, each field is marked with regards to its potential functionality with regards to instance matching between overlapping datasets. Digital Linguistic Object The digital linguistic object reference data model provides a list of standard fields that are typically present in the general description of a digital linguistic object in a cultural heritage data system. A digital linguistic object is meant in the sense of a digitally encoded information object represented as bit sequences that have been encoded with a particular format and can be digitally decoded and represented to an end user of a digital information system. Digital linguistic objects are often stored as reference or documentation objects relative to cultural heritage items such as TEI XML markups. Digital linguistic objects can also form cultural heritage objects in their own right, though this model does not aim to represent this potential aspect of the digital object. This reference model intends to remain at a general level description, providing a consolidated, high-level reference data model of most commonly reused descriptors for a digital linguistic object and to provide for these, in turn, a set of standard semantic mappings to the CIDOC CRM. Moreover, each field is marked with regards to its potential functionality with regards to instance matching between overlapping datasets. Place The generic place reference data model provides a condensed list of generic descriptors (fields) that are typically present in the description of a place in cultural heritage data systems. The intention of this reference model is to indicate where such data would be consolidated were that data present. Digital visual objects can also form cultural heritage objects in their own right, though this model does not aim to represent this potential aspect of the digital object. This reference model intends to remain at a general level description, providing a consolidated, high-level reference data model of most commonly reused descriptors for a digital viual object and to provide for these, in turn, a set of standard semantic mappings to the CIDOC CRM. The intention of this reference model is to indicate where such data would be consolidated were that data present. Bibliographic Item The bibliographic item reference data model provides a list of standard fields that are often found present in the general description of a bibliographic item. Rather, we are interested here in representing the types of information that are typically gathered by scholars relative to a publication in their creation of bibliographies for use in scholarship and used as the basis for citations.
