In the PIR content this model is typically used to record overall sales catalogues, auction catalogues and stock books as well as their individual entries and, where appropriate, pages and other subdivision. This model is intended to aid provenance researchers to locate the original source information based upon which record of individual assertions within records have been made in the Provenance Index. Person This model enables the documentation of a single, human individual. This could be an artist, a seller, buyer or collector amongst others. The function of this model is to enable the documentation of individual human beings. This model is intended to aid provenance researchers to trace data in relation to individual artworks over time with a focus on provenance history. Set This model enables the documentation of auction lots as the collection of objects (where a set can have only one member) offered for sale Group This model enables the documentation for a collective of individuals ranging from a formal institutional collective like a museum, to a group of followers of an artist, an artistic school etc. Provenance Activity The function of this model is to provide records of the provenance events in which an object is known to have been involved in during its existence. In particular this constitutes events of transfer of ownership and custody of the object or rights to an object, including acts of payment between parties, as well as changes of physical location and witnessing of the object through acts such as inventory. The provenance model is intended to facilitate the tracking of the different activities in which an object has been involved in its existence so as to determine its overall provenance and to understand particular events that have occurred to the object in its history. Visual Work This model enables the documentation for the visual information object carried by an artwork [PIRM.53\_Physical Object]. Place This model enables the documentation of places where provenance activities or general activities took place as well as the places where artworks were created and where person or groups involved in provenance activities may have worked, stayed, been born or died. Physical Object The function of this model is to enable the documentation of physical objects of cultural historical importance, typically artworks but also the physical documents and other objects which carry the information which records the history of these objects. This model is intended to aid provenance researchers to trace data in relation to individual artworks over time with a focus on provenance history.
